i am calling a wipeout of gop in the NC congressional race to replace gop tom tillis. yes, i am expected a modest gop voter disinterest in midterms, but i still expect this to be among the most lopsided purple victory for Dems.
it may be a risk, given its a state that got thousands of gop votes in the past for mark robinson, but here's the setup :
roy cooper
- one of the most popular and successful leaders in NC, won at multiple high positions.
- NC known to favor Dems for higher level offices (only lost auditor at state level in 2024)
- copper knows he has all the Dem votes. he is amusingly using 'MAGA' flavor to his commercials, like 'fighting drugs and fentanyl' and 'convicting violent criminals' per his time as AG.
cooper's opponent , whatley, is running ads slamming cooper as a person who randomly released thousands of prisoners when gov.
let's have a look.
mike whatley
- during head of GOP party, best known for funneling all donations for trump's use.
- his ad on cooper's criminal release : was a reduced settlement to ease prison overcrowding contagion risk during trump's covid mismanagement
- whatley's another such ad involves crimes and release in SC...an entirely different state! yes, i know geography is among the gop's deficiencies within all of stem, so the rednecks will buy it.
but for the topping :
whatley's ads show him as a plaid-wearing pickup truck driver concerned about the state. but he is nearing $150k of airtime bopping around in a $2m private plane. so keep up the bigly spending on whatley ! even when he loses, the biz-as-usual grift will have been satisfied.
