The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

Thank you for your confirmation.

That wasn't the confirmation you were hoping for.
You confirmed the snotty, elitist euro-centric air of Icky America Doing Grubby Things Again. It's the kind of faculty-lounge type nonsense that never really reaches a conclusion other than America is Icky. Can't tell you how many of those types I've run into over the years that have the Holier Than Thou sense of foreign policy but zero idea of how any of it works. Many of them now write books on why socialism is the answer, btw.

As for the rest, I'd suggest you clue in on how the other regional states are reacting. Contra this board's genius opinion that they'd be passive players in an oil world where Iran could just perpetually hold them hostage, they're actually doing what rational players always do: find the next best alternative and make it work. As such they're all acting to reduce their dependence on the strait. It will take a while, but it will happen.

In 10 years nobody will care about the Strait of Hormuz because its relative importance will have diminished. It's amazing how weaker minds are always held hostage to a raft of assumptions they never have the energy to question. It's a pity - questioning assumptions leads one to many, many different paths for a solution to a problem.
