Pet shop guy doesn't seem to understand how it works. He's an older gentleman, and is already on expensive medications. For him to get "affordable" health care, it means that a sizable amount of the cost of his health care has to be picked up by other people. He's upset that he's being charged something close to what it actually costs to provide him health care...
Is that the correct cost, though?
Example: Wife had an endoscopy.
Amount provider billed: $3991
Plan discounts: $3591
Plan paid: $174
Total amount you owe the provider: $226
Bill: $3991
Amount they received: $400 (10% of the amount billed, 90% discount).
Now I wouldn't have done what they did for $400, but there's something not adding up here.
This is also why we cannot go without some kind of insurance. Even if it pays almost nothing it still gets us 90% discounts on services.
