The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

3) Luxembourg domicile rather than Ireland

Nope, Ireland.
Unless perhaps your web site gives you different version of the fund based on where you are.

4) I think there's an accumulator version MEEQ if you don't like getting divis.

I don't like the high *tax* on dividends. An accumulating fund does nothing to help that : )
They deduct the withholding tax and only the remaining amount is reinvested. Alas, every DRIP sets a little money on fire, with or without the tax drag. Worst idea for investors since "2 and 20" fee structures.

The most obvious difference is that there are few mega sized IT companies listed in Europe vs many listed in the USA.

True by comparison, but there are still some very large cap firms in Europe compared to the smaller ones, meaning still some big advantages to avoiding cap weight. Top 4 stocks in the cap weight are 11.2% of that index instead of 1% of the equal-weight version. The "regular" index has 17 times the company specific risk. Any cap weight fund has an outsized allocation to whatever is overpriced on any given day. Great for fund managers, not investors.

5-6% of the fund is US stocks (liquidity?).
Ummm...no? It's the ~400 stocks in the MSCI Europe index, no US firms at all unless there are some weirdly international/unidentifiable companies in there. I sure don't see that in the list or mandate, nor in the domicile breakdown. Where do you get that?
