Down here, a fire can easily escape efforts to contain it, in spite of all the planes, helicopters and good highway systems.
I think it only makes sense to fire clear a forest within 5 miles of inhabited areas to make zones harder for the fire to traverse. We've had strange things happen though. Trees killed by beetles, etc., becoming piles of kindling within 6 months.. Certain choke points should be cleared, and some areas have natural controlled burning from lightning strikes if you leave them alone, we didn't, so then we had to imitate lightning. Fires can leap 18 miles ya know.
Canada is a HUUUUGGEE boreal forest, We need an adult in the white house if we want to have a good discussion on it. The idea that you can control burn that entire area is ludicrous, much less clear the entire thing.
