The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

<<Good man.

And history will view his Presidency rather freaking well.>>

I would agree, as far as his policies go. But he made two disastrous mistakes. One was not to pursue Trump aggressively for his crimes, because Biden thought Trump would fade and disappear and ignoring him would be a way to heal the divisions in America. The other was to run for re-election when he could no longer hack it. The tragic result is that Biden’s positive legacy has been completely erased by Trump, both in people’s minds and in the practical effect of his policies.

I feel for Joe. Metastatic prostate cancer is a bad way out. A friend has the same. It is horrible.

However, I don’t think history will view his presidency well. He lost to Donald Trump. The Donald Trump we already knew. Joe stayed too long. It’s a trend, lately.

I have several friends who voted for Trump. They’re well off and inflation wasn’t hitting them hard. That wasn’t why they voted Trump. This is what they say:

- The debacle at the border
- Harris overly woke/incompetent
- The debacle at the border
- Biden mentally incompetent and gas-lighted us about it
- And of course, the debacle at the border

I pointed out how control at the border was eventually regained. Too little, too late is the response.

Now, they agree ICE is going too far and is using the wrong tactics. However, chanting “abolish ICE” isn’t going to get these guys back.

Was in Boston last night and had the local news on. Ad for some dem pol used that very phrase: “abolish ICE”. Ok. Then what?

Anyway, think good thoughts for Joe and his family.
