1poormom was in a hybrid situation. She fell, ended up in a hospital, and while there they brought in a neurologist to evaluate her. All that was covered. Plus the rehab facility when she was discharged. All that was medical. But the neurologist said she should never live by herself, and she should never drive. Her decline had been slow enough that I didn't really realize how bad it was getting.
So we moved her into an adult facility (had IL, AL, and MC). That wasn't covered, and her LTC policy started paying (though not enough...it was helpful, but not enough).
I think most facilities know when Medicare covers their services, and they would tell patients. Our knew about the first 100 days, and such.
