I understand starting an impeachment inquiry when it is necessary to compel compliance with subpoenas, but using this tool on a cabinet secretary in this context is pointless because we know he is just faithfully implementing Biden policy and would be replaced with a carbon copy.

As far as lying to congress is concerned, well yeah, unfortunately we see that all the time. Lying to congress usually results in no consequences, especially when the lie is being told by a fellow politician.

Mayorkas seems to me like a simple fellow who has not mastered the art of answering a question with a pseudo-truth/lie blend with the same ease and aplomb as that of an experienced politician.
