The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

Ideology says we can't "burden" the "JCs" with a bill like that. Tax the Proles more? Or, embrace the forced labor camp model?

Here is an article that puts some recent numbers on mental health care in Michigan.

State withdraws plan to potentially privatize Michigan mental health services

The management of Michigan’s behavioral health system costs close to 5 billion dollars every year. That’s about 15 percent of MDHHS’s entire budget.

“In the ‘60s, we had almost 22,000 in Michigan, and now the state finances, almost 700 — that is, that’s basically malpractice, in my mind,” she said. “They’re relying on general hospitals to have psychiatric units”

$5B/yr, for 700. Extrapolate that out to 22,000 patients, like the state had in the 60s. That's $157B. The entire state budget currently, is some $82.5B. How will tens of thousands of patients be paid for? If the GOP retakes control in Lansing this fall, their first and only priority will be more "JC" tax cuts. States can't run deficits to infinity, like DC can. How can the Proles pay for both "JC" tax cuts, and a mental health budget nearly double the size of the current entire state budget?
