...but a recognition that leaving people alone to just face the horrors of the street and die with untreated mental issues isn't much of a compassionate alternative.
Is it, really? 40 years ago, the mentally ill were warehoused at public expense. Now, ideology dictates everything be rationed bty ability to pay. How will value be extracted from the inmates, to cover the cost of keeping them locked up? According to what I see, the old Michigan state hospitals cost some $500,000/bed/year. Ideology says we can't "burden" the "JCs" with a bill like that. Tax the Proles more? Or, embrace the forced labor camp model?
