The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

a. too much conflation between an ally for trump, and an ally for america.
let's face it, the real benchmark for being the latter and not the former is to get tariffed, demeaned, and extorted.
not to get near unlimited resources for local blood feuds. and we know the israel economy can spend their own money, being in global gdp top30.

b. china is a much bigger threat than russia, but not infallible. they have significant issues.
like trump, xi has purged anyone offering contrary takes. not because they may be right, but because they are a threat.
but i will concede xi is at least several times more intelligent than trump, and with longterm policies.
(but geez, both old as hell and major catastrophic blunders seem ever risky)

c. given who you ask, america does not need israel, and certainly not for any leverage to oil access.
israel is doing all they can to embed themselves in american institutions for their own existential reasons.
i question ethics and alliance of all named,; saudis, iran, israel.
if we dont need bases, then we dont need anyone. and trump\gop are happy to say we dont need anyone, regardless of veering towards his personal interests.
turkey, with its own flaws, seem not a bad choice to partner, if one has to be made in the region.

lastly , i ponder this:
imagine china, with its need to secure oil durably, made israel an top-tier ally in return for upfront and ongoing resources to fulfill all their expansionist , economic, and muslim genocide fantasies.
the temptation would be enormous, but probably not enough to cross the cultural and historical divide.
