The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

I guess I'd invert the question. You have money to invest. What investment has the best prospects given your situation?

Any place where I trust the data used to manipulate the markets, and insider information is not considered a perk of the job/loyalty. For me, that is not the US, and since the US is likely to impact the global economy if it goes south, we are only about 40% invested in the market. For us right now, as retirees, we are in survivability mode for our investments, as there is no earned income coming in to reestablish a war chest. Cash is getting a decent return and we should not see a decline in principal other than by inflation impacting the spending value of the principal. Part of this large cash component is for buying that primary residence when we decide where that is, with the property values in the two leading prospects on the decline.

Unfortunately, my trust issues are not just with the government, but with the American people who put this administration in place not once, but twice. We are taking no action until after the midterms. A positive result on the midterms simply means we stay on hold rather than implement exit, and wait to see results of the promises made.

The "Roman Empire" may be falling.
