Total return 49% (27%/yr) from that post 1.7 years ago, but (again, not really knowing the industry) it superficially looks to me like greater than 50/50 chance of a double digit nominal annual total return in the next few years from here ($52.61 in the US).
That's assuming no catastrophes to their overall business, which I can't comment on because I don't really know the industry or its hidden risks. This refers to SLB. While rebranded as an energy company, it is still largely an oil service company and share price tends to move a lot in tandem with oil price. I do wonder how much of the business returns actually go towards shareholders. If we go with Yahoo Finance adjusted close prices to yesterday's close of $52.61, I get the following nominal total return CAGR numbers:
- 1 year : 64.1%
- 2 year : 12.5%
- 3 year : -1.6%
- 5 year : 15.5%
- 10 year : -1.5%
- 15 year : -0.1%
- 20 year : 1.19%
- 25 year : 5.1%
- 30 year : 5.43%
- 40 year : 7.49%
So how would a long term buy and hold shareholder have fared after inflation?
