Waiting until age 70 allows you to spend more money at age 62, NOT LESS.
1poorlady is having difficulty with this. First, she (and I) had to transition from accumulation to distribution. Then we have to be OK with drawing down in anticipation of future accumulation (SS). Assuming SS will still be there in 7 years (for me, 8 years for her). Reps have wanted to tear that down for decades, and the Boomers are all dying off. The demographic landscape is changing, and relatively soon we won't have as lop-sided an age distribution as we have for the past 30 years.
It really is a different mindset. Even if, intellectually, what you say is pretty obvious. Habits are hard to break.
Once I get on Medicare, and especially when 1poorlady gets there, I'm going to start distributing the heck out of our taxable retirement stuff so the eventual RMDs don't bump us into a high tax bracket.
