Who knows how it all ends but when you treat your partner like crap and that partner starts looking for other partners it's awfully hard to get the old relationship back. This is something that will effect us way beyond Trump because it's not Trump that they don't trust, it's the American electorate!
Rightly so, when 1/3 of the voters approve of what's going on no matter how clearly unlawful and awful it is. It's not just the immediate effects (Canadian friends tell me that they ow avoid every American product they possibly can; as an expat, I am trying to do the same). In the very best case, America might be a trustworthy alliance and business partner, and a safe place for foreigners to work and visit, after a few decades of confidence-building good behavior.
