This is interesting. My graduate work was in gamma rays. A long duration "burst" is almost an oxymoron, because a burst is -by definition- brief. The article refers to it as an "explosion". I think "event" is probably the better term, from a scientific standpoint.

Gamma-ray bursts are brief but extreme surges of high-energy radiation triggered by violent events in space and typically last only seconds or minutes. GRB 250702B defied that pattern, setting a new duration record.
