The week's question
In December 2024, in the thread "Re: BRK: Why Not XOM?", BreckHutHigh asked the members: "What about the long road trips with kids?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

It is also possible that after some time going it on their own they may say "gee, that was a bad choice...maybe we should get back to our borders, and talk to them again." I think that is plausible. But, initially, I wouldn't expect them to go back to their treaty borders.

I tend to agree that they would be more likely to just move along, rather than completely eliminate West Bank settlements. There isn't a set of "treaty borders" that were ever established. I mean, other than the ones with Egypt and Jordan - there's no formal treaty that establishes the boundaries of where a Palestinian state would be, if it were established. You have the Green Line borders (which served as the de facto borders of the country until 1967), which is what I think you mean. But I can't see Israel agreeing to pull back to the Green Line outside of the type of formal framework that has eluded the parties for all this time, even if U.S. support were contingent on them doing it.
