I just came across this. The Univ. of Chicago published a new study in 2023 showing that, based on their age at death, 90% of SS recipients would have collected more from the system by waiting (if not until until age 70, at least as long as they can.) That’s far worse than I thought. I knew that Americans were bad at estimating their longevity, but I didn’t realize it was epidemic. {{ LOL }}
Of course, only the top wealthiest 10% or 15% of the population have enough in savings to comfortably delay all the way to age 70, but a much smaller percentage do so.
